The Tsunami That Wasn't

Well, what a day! After that horrendous earthquake in Chile we in Hawaii spent the whole day waiting for a tsunami that barely happened. Man, we were so lucky! The worst it did was cancel our party we had all planned. :( And close down the entire state. There were all these pictures of the closed beaches, streets and highways. It was so nice to see NO traffic!

There is a canal that runs from the mountains to the ocean called the Ala Wai. The water always runs from the mountains into the ocean. The tsunami made it run backwards! And the level of water was very high but that's the worst that happened. Except for our party. What a bummer. :(

The awful tsunami is racing for Japan as we speak. Hold them in your thoughts, please. We were spared so let's hope they are, too. And please send healing thoughts to Chile and Argentina. Those poor people. Thanks!

Hi there
yes it was the Tsunami that wasnt in Australia too.
The seas rose, and the tide went in and out in 1/2 hour instead of the usual 4 in some places.
We are lucky it wasnt worse but we will be saying prayers for Chile and all those poor people , wish I could help. I have been to Hawaii and think I remember where the Canal is that would be strange to see. Hoppre the seas fizzle out before it gets to Japan too.
Love your site. See you here again some time

Moe, I'm so glad that you are OK. Thanks for keeping us posted. Sorry about your party getting cancelled, but I guess that's not too bad in the grand scheme of things. I'm glad to see from Elizabeth's post that Australia made it through OK, too. Thoughts and prayers go out to those not so lucky.

Mahalo, Anita. All is well in Aloha Land. Except it's about 65 degrees with 40 mile an hour winds. We are all freezing. Okay, okay! I can hear everyone racing to their keyboards to tell me all about "real" freezing. :D
