Jade Troubles

We were all going to make jade pens on the forum. So I thought that would be a great idea so I trots to my table and make 2 colors of jade. I covered the pens and baked. OIKS. :( The trans was SOOO trans, the green almost disappeared and the brass of the pen guts showed through making a bilious color. Gack. So, I took it off and tried again. No matter what trans I used and how much opaque clay I used, the brass of the pen showed through. But, without brass underneath, here are the pendants I made with the left overs. ;) I think the plaqueing looks cool in faux stones.  :D

I think they look cool too. Too bad they didn't work on the brass pen.

Hey, how about a thin layer of white or a pale green under the trans. Jade? Couldn't see the guts then! =0)

I know, Dawna, a bummer. :(

and Pammie, I thought of that but the white would have to be a 9 on my pm! I have to make the regular clay a 5 or 6 so the pen doesn't get a "waist" :( Probably more trouble than I want to deal with. :)

Hi Moe, you could cover your brass pen with a very thin sheet of white or black clay -- it doesn't have to be very thick to cover first -- or the other possibility is to paint your brass barrels -- any acrylic paint should work since the clay will be baked right over top of it after.

Hi Moe,

How about backing the jade with a thin layer of clay before you put it on the pen guts?

how about using some nice paint on the brass piece. Like white or a light green. let it dry good then carefully apply the clay over that.

the pendants are awesome ipo. I agree I love the plaquing

I have a suggestion for you. Roll white or very light green clay at the thinnest setting you comfortably can, then layer it with the faux jade and run it through again at the setting you want to use for the pen. The resulting sheet should still be the thickness you want to use but with an opaque foundation!

You guys are all terrific! Thanks so much! I am going to try the paint. As soon as I get over feeling like garbage. I caught Brian's bubonic plague or whatever grim thing he has. :(

oh no Ipo, you are NOT supposed to be sharing his germs! healing energy

Oh, darn! Feel better, my sweet!

Too bad about the pens, but you have nailed the jade in the faux stones. Wonderful! I'm a big fan of plaquing in general in faux stones and YOURS in particular.

Thanks guys! I is feeling almost "normal" today. :) Thanks for all the healing thoughts! They worked!

I'm thinking of trying one last time with the jade pen, Anita. I will go paint some pen guts soon. :)
