A Brain Fart

Here was me, reading this cool new wire book.  I find this really cool river rock bracelet by Lorelei Eurto and decide I wants one only from clay.  So, I toddle off to my table whereupon I create this excessively cool faux jade stones.  :)  LOVE that Pardo trans!  So, I make my stones and put the perpendicular pukas in and get out my wire.  I make jump rings and the spirals and all is right in my tiny world.  Except that the jump rings have to be big to go through the pukas.  They look great but now the bracelet won't lay against my wrist.  Enter above mentioned brain fart. Just HOW do I connect these stones now?  Anyone have any ideas?  Hellllp!

Had to give this some thought...
Try putting your large jump rings into the beads then connecting the jump rings with chain or smaller jumps in between. Might that work for you?

I did that, Pammie but, because the jumps were big, the links just kind of floated away from my skin. It's the jump ring size that is the problem. I tried making smaller jumps but then they don't go through the fat clay. :(

Maybe you'll need to use cording, leather or silk.

I had the same problem with my ribbons and hearts. Don't scoff, but here's something that would work as long as you'd be willing to have a bracelet that isn't reversible.

Get out your handy-dandy Dremel and put a very rough sanding bit on it. Grind the backs of the beads down flat. Reducing the overall thickness solves the jump ring problem and making the backs flat, it'll lay better on the wrist. Meanwhile the tops retain their 3D-ness. :) (You'd of course want to hit the now-flat backs with your regular wet/dry paper to refine them.)

I know, I know, that would make them look like half of jade stones instead of jade stones, but you you could look at them as cabochons. ;)

BTW - I looked up "pukas" and it's either a South American shrub or a New Zealand Tree. So I's majorly confused here.

ok Ipo,,,,instead of making the jump rings round...make them oval....and flat on the back so they will lay against the bead yes...you can pay me later

Norma, you may be right. I am going to try a couple other of these dandy suggestions first. :D

SCOOOOOFFFFF! NOOOOO! Sand away my beeeoootiful jade? I can't bear it. I'd be depressed for days! Drive me to drink wine even! :D

Poor Col. Puka shells? Puka is Hawaiian for "hole". :D

Hah, Ipo! I actually thought of that...but.... I'd have the same problem with flexibility, methinks. I'm thinking of trying Pee's suggestion of wire wrapped loops connected with small jumps. If that doesn't work, I'll have to use soft. Maybe kuihimo?

Crap, be easier to just make new beads. Bat snot. :(

Ah connections......

My ongoing saga. I love making things but not so good at putting them together.

Keep us posted as to how it works out.....

Noone's going to see the backs when it's on your wrist. 'Cept you. ;)

Perhaps a bit late with this but...maybe you should have drilled the holes horizontally through the beads instead of on the ends. Kathi's idea of oval jump rings is a good one, too.

Thanks all! I have to go try out the suggestions everyone gave. I'll let you know. :D
