Fun Stuff

Hi Everybody!  Haven't seen you guys in a while.  Thanks for stopping by! :D

I need some suggestions, ok?  I got Christi Friesen's new Flourish book and now have leaves on the brain.  So, I made these leaves last night and have ZERO idea of what to do with them.  They are about 2 1/2 inches at their widest.  I guess they should go on a box?  Help!

And then I got Sherry Kellberg's toot on how to make faux lamp work glass.  Now, this is a really fun toot!  :D  I made these blue and green mokume gane beads then spent 3 days putting on dots of liquid clay.
As you can see, on the last curing, the liquid clay started to singe.  Now...my oven stayed at 275 according to the thermometer.  This is the very first time ever that I had something burn.  Oddly, all these beads were on the same bead rack.  Check out this bead here:
This bead was right next to the barrel above.  How did just one bead get so dark?  But wanna know the coolest thing?  Even this bead is beautiful.  Instead of just being burned, the singed part is a root beer color with red highlights.  It looks like dark amber and is really pretty.

So, because the singeing made such pretty gold sparkly colors, I made this bracelet.

And, when I'm not torching faux glass beads, I am making color combinations from Carolyn Good's Fabulous Color System.  But that's for another blog soon! :D

Ooh - they all came out so pretty!

My suggestion for the leaves is a hairclip? Not one of those cheap metal things that damages hair, but those really pretty plastic comb-clips. There are flat ones that slide & grip. Would be so pretty!

Your faux leaves are gorgeous! They look sooo real Moe! And I love your faux lamp work glass beads! I wouldn't be able to tell the difference next to real ones.

So glad to see you enjoyed the tutorial! I love the beads you made, they do look just like glass! I found that putting a tent of heavy-duty foil over stuff, works great, if I think it could possibly burn:)

Thanks, Cat. I just can't decide. Maybe I'll bling them up with some fun beading. I STILL won't know what to do with them but they'll be bling-y. ;) I'm afraid the leaves will break if I make them into a hair thingy. :(

Thanks, Sandy! I had a blast making the faux lamp work. It didn't occur to me to put foil over them as I always equate foil to trans. But next time I will put a tent on them.

And leaves are fun, no? I rolled out that scrap clay and it just screamed I WANNA BE LEAVES! Ok, ok. leaves you are. :D

Thanks, Sherry. In the future, I will put a tent over the beads. I just didn't think of it because I wasn't using trans. Silly me. I'm really happy with them, tho. Next batch will be even more fun! :D

Thanks, Jax! Take a look at Sherry's toot. It's lots of fun and makes really cool looking faux glass. You could make some really fun beads using your canes! Have at it, GF! xoxoxo

Moe, It's great to see photos of your new work. I LOVE the leaves. There are so many cool possibilities. My first thought was that they would look lovely paired with shiny small bead "berries". Necklace, brooch, box, hair clip? So many ways to use something so pretty.

I especially love the faux lampwork beads. They look so real and I bet they were fun to make. I just know you are going to have customer who will have a lot of fun wearing them.

KUDOS on the Lemons to Lemonade on the lovely unusual, but effective scorched bead. I swear that anyone working with PC needs a lot of the mentality of re-purposing things when something happens unexpectedly.....which ALWAYS seems to be happening when working with PC.

Thanks, Carolyn and Anita! I finally put my leaves in a box to think about later. ;) And Anita, Sherri Kellberg's tute is great fun. One of these days I am going to make more after I get done with Carolyn's tute! :D

You put those gorgeous leaves in a box??? The pinks and greens are delightful together. I can't tell the size from the pics but I immediately thought (and I have no idea why) they should have very thin "strings" coming down from them and spaced apart - 3 or 4 "threads" - maybe with some tiny little sparkly doodads on them- and put some kind of clip on the back and viola - scarf clip.

Well, Col, they are in a box simply because my LRBC doesn't know what to do with them yet. They're about 2 1/2 inches across so just right for a brooch/pin but I'm afraid they might break if someone wasn't really careful. I think they need sparkly vines, too. Slowly but surely I am seeing them on the side of a vase with sparkles all over the place. Blinged Leaves, don'tchaknow. ;)
